Oman deserves a lot of respect. It has transformed itself over the last 50 years from a small, poor nation without the oil resources of many of its neighbors into a free, strong and economically stable country. Oman appears to have successfully transitioned from its first national leader – Sultan Qaboos Bin Said al Said to its second leader- Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. Also, in January 2021, a Crown Prince was name ensuring a future peaceful transition to the next generation.

New Oman Banknotes

The Central Bank of Oman had planned to introduce the first note in the 60th series in 2020 to celebrate the 50th year of rule by Sultan Qaboos Bin Said al Said. However sadly, the Sultan died on January 10, 2020. As a result, the Bank decided to release the $50 as a celebration of the Sultan’s reign. This note was issued on July 8, 2020. It is one of the most beautiful banknotes from the last several years and includes some of the most advanced security features.

The Denominations

The Central Bank of Oman has announced the issuance to complete the sixth series. The 5, 10 and 20 Riyal include the portrait of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

The low denominations – 100 Baisa, ½ Rial and 1 Rial are printed by Oberthur. While the higher denominations – 5, 10 and 20 Rial are printed by G&D who also printed the 50. Also the low denomination notes will have basic security features, the 5, 10 and 20 will use some of the most advanced features from SICPA and G&D. The promotional images in circulation show these notes to be as beautiful as the 50. The notes began circulating on January 11, 2021- on the anniversary of the elevation of the Sultan.
